Imphal, December 06 2008: MPP will never accept any attempt of the Government of India to disintegrate Manipur just to please one insurgent group or a single community, said MPP president Dr L Chandramani.

Briefing media persons at its office, the MPP president noted that the people have an uneasy feeling about the peace parley between NSCN (IM) leaders and the Government of India scheduled to begin from tomorrow at Amsterdam.

The three day long parley will figure 31 different agenda/issues.

Saying that MPP welcomes peace talk with insurgent groups of the North East region including Manipur, Chandramani noted that the current round of talk assumes great significance as it has been hinted that there may be no more dialogue in case the Amsterdam round of talk fails to bring some concrete development towards resolving the vexed Naga insurgency.

It would be in the fitness of things to point out to the Govt of India before opening the dialogue that Manipur was once an independent kingdom and that Manipur is made up by both the hills and valley and that Manipur was merged into the Indian Union in 1949 along with its existing geographical boundary, he asserted.

Of the 31 different agenda put up for discussion by the NSCN (IM), unification of Naga inhabited areas in the North East region figures most prominently.

As such, MPP cannot take the scheduled parley lightly and it is observing the development closely, he said.

Observing that the demand for unification of Naga inhabited areas cannot be called a peace talk but a direct threat to the integrity of Manipur, Dr Chandramani asserted that MPP will never accede to any attempt aimed at disintegrating Manipur just to please and pacify an insurgent group or a single community.

Any design of Govt of India to disintegrate Manipur will only mean plotting disastrous blood-bath in the whole North East region, he cautioned.

Taking part in the press meet, newly appointed spokesperson of the MPP, RK Anand said MPP has been monitoring the peace parleys between the Govt of India and the NSCN (IM) from time to time since the two sides declared cease-fire.

Till date, the decade long peace talk is unable to bring any positive result.

The process lacks any justification, Anand observed.

In case the Centre continues to provide tacit support to demand for integration of Naga inhabited areas even after the momentous civil movements and huge mass rallies, it is quite logical to oppose the peace talk, he noted.

He further reminded of the speech given by Outer MP Mani Charenamei on the floor of the Parliament at the time of taking vote of confidence for the UPA Govt that he voted for UPA after he was assured that the UPA Government's Common Minimum Programme would be reviewed.
