Imphal, Jul 06: The banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has pulled up two doctors on charges of negligence as well as giving preference to monetary gains rather than serve the needy.

Informing the matter to mediapersons somewhere at Imphal West district today, a spokesperson of UNLF's Central Security Force (CSF) said the armed organisation was drawn to a recent report published in State dailies regarding a pregnant woman being denied medical attention.

Elaborating on the incident, the spokesperson said owing to differences of opinion between two doctors of Leirik Memorial charitable Hospital, Sangaiprou the woman was made to endure mental trauma in addition to labour pain.

The woman named as Wangjam Bina Devi (44) w/o Sursen Singh of Mayang Imphal thana Ani Longbi was admitted on June 21 at the private hospital where she was under the supervision of one Dr Laishram Sukumar of Keishamthong Hodam Leirak.

Dr Sukumar is informed to be a gynaecologist of JN Hospital, Porompat.

On the day (june 24) Bina was supposed to undergo operation for delivery, Dr Sukumar advised the patient party to contact a pharmaceutical outlet located close to JN Hospital in order to procure blood from the hospital's blood bank, detailed the spokesperson adding that the particular pharmacy is owned by the doctor's younger brother.

After purchasing medicines from pharmacies inside Leirik Memorial Hospital, the patient party reached the Porompat pharmacy and asked for arranging procurement of blood to which the pharmacy owner declined apparently as the patient party has not purchased the medicines from his pharmacy.

after a few minutes of Bina being wheeled into the operation theatre she was brought out again with the doctor reasoning that blood had to be provided.

However, the pregnant woman was issued 'transfer certificate' signed by one Dr Brajabidhu who cited lack of consensus among personnel (staff) of the charitable Hospital as the main cause for inability to carry out the operation.

Opining that conduct of the two doctors are beyond accepted norms of their noble profession, the spokesperson informed media persons that as punishment the doctors would be asked to repay all the expenditures (Rs 18,800) accrued by the patient party.

accepting they had erred, the two doctors assured to comply to instruction of the UNLF in repaying the expenditures.

On the otherhand, the spokesperson prevailed upon medical practitioners to uphold integrity of their profession rather than eye pocket's of patient parties to accumulate wealth and asserted that the outfit's CSF would keep close tap on collusion between doctors and pharmacists.

In case further instances of doctors causing hardships to patient/patient parties are informed UNLF would be compelled to punish the guilty in a befitting manner.
