In a macabre incident, a young man was stabbed to death by his younger brother at Chingmeirong Lei-Ingkhol under Lamphel Police Station at around 10 am today.
The deceased has been identified as Sadokpam Jiten (29) son of Sadokpam Natum of Tinsukia, Assam and the killer brother as Amarjit (24).Amarjit is said to be a driver of an oil tanker and has been staying here long since he did not go back to Tinsukia after coming along with the oil tanker.
Jiten had come to Manipur to meet Amarjit who is staying at Lei-Ingkhol.
Jiten reportedly came in an inebriated today and started beating up Amarjit while the latter was slicing a Mango with the help of a knife.
In a fit of anger, Amarjit retaliated and stabbed his brother below the left shoulder.
Amarjit was among those who brought a profusely bleeding Jiten for treatment at RIMS Hospital and he even donated blood for his brother.
Till that time no one knew who had stabbed Jiten.
But on seeing the disturbed state of mind of Amarjit and based on the report of quarrelling between the brothers, personnel of RIMS Police Picket arrested him at around 2.30 pm.
During the course of interrogation, Amarjit broke down and confessed that he had stabbed his brother.
Lamphel police station has taken custody of Amarjit and a case registered in connection with the incident.
Jiten succumbed to his injuries at around 4 pm.
The body has been deposited at RIMS morgue for post-mortem.
Body fished out: The body of a 35-year old man was fished out from the Imphal river near Leikon Khul under Heingang Police Station early morning today.
The body has been identified as that of Nongthombam Inaobi (35) son of Ibobi of Awang Potsangbam Khunou Awang Leikai.
There was injury mark on his head.
Inaobi had reportedly gone out from home at around 6 pm yesterday and has since been missing.
The body has been handed over to the family members after post-mortem at RIMS morgue today evening.
