Imphal, April 17:
One woman was killed while six others including two policemen were injured when unidentified men hurled a grenade towards the Shri Marwari at the heart of Imphal city today at about 8 pm.
The injured cops include an SI and a constable of City Police.
The deceased woman has been identified as Monika Rai (26) wife of Gautam Rai.
The SI has been identified as RK Sanatomba and the constable as Ksh Naba.
Both sustained injuries on the legs.
Five of the victims, including the deceased woman, were rushed to JN Hospital while another two were admitted to RIMS hospital, said sources.
According to information culled from the site of the incident, the attack occurred while there was a �Chakumba� ceremony of the son of one S Goswami at the second floor while a birthday party was in progress at the top floor of the Shri Marwari Dharamshala.
The main gate of the Dharamshala was left opened at the time of the incident while the second gate was locked.
The bomb exploded in between the main gate and the second gate.
Soon after the incident top ranking police officers including DGP AK Parashar, IG (LO) R Baral and Imphal West SP S Ibocha rushed to the spot to get a first hand account of the matter.
Till late in the evening no group has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack.
In another incident, unidentified persons lobbed a bomb at the residence of a member of a Zilla Parishad today evening.
The bomb however did not explode.
The house is located at Deulalane and is just behind Tiny Tots' Unique School.
