In a major breakthrough Imphal East district police busted a combined hideout of militant organisations - Kuki National Front and United National Liberation Front - and recovered huge consignment of arms and assorted ammunition from Khongsai Veng this afternoon.
According to Imphal East district's Superintendent of Police Kh Chandramani Singh the hide out was busted based on information culled during interrogation of a KNF member named as Lalgoumang alias Amang Khongsai of Chaningpokpi from Khurai Lamlong Bazar area.
Amang was arrested at around 3.30 pm during frisking and checking at Lamlong which was conducted based on specific information, said the SP during press briefing today evening.
Amang disclosed of the joint hide-out of UNLF and KNF at Khongsai Veng and in subsequent follow-up action resulted in the arrest of one Leovon Romio (32) alias Romi Kom s/o (L) L Thouba Kom of Purum Likli in Senapati district and a female cadre of the UNLF identified as Khomdram Roma Devi (25) d/o Kh Achouba Singh of Heingang Makha Leikai.
The arrests were made from the residence of Leovon Romio informed to be an organiser cum recruiting officer of the UNLF organisation while Roma is said to be a private of the underground outfit.
The arms and ammunition seizures include seven hand grenades, 74 electric detonators, one .38 pistol along with a magazine, 16 nos of .38 ammunition, two MM-30 anti-aircraft shells, 169 .303 ammunition, 154 M-16 ammos, five standard radio sets, two Takyo high power sets, same number of ICOM set chargers, five battery covers, 100 name plates, two Kenwood sets, five shoulder badge, four W/T set cover, large number of MPA badges and 75 detonators.
In a separate incident unidentified gunmen shot five persons including two women at Kalapahar Bazar under Kangpokpi PS last night at around 8.30 for selling local brew, said sources.
The five wounded persons are Mohen Pradhan (36), Lai Bahadur Pradhan (36), Kumar Bajan (30), Bhan Bahadur Rai (55), Pushpa Gurung (35).All the five victims who were shot on the leg are reported to be from Kalapahar and currently admitted at Mission Hospital Kangpokpi.
Meanwhile, the identity of the youth who committed suicide with his lover (Maratha) at Langka Village under Kangpokpi Village on 28 March is still lying at RIMS without its identity, yet to be established, said sources.
