Imphal, August 21 2009: Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) has drawn the attention of the concerned authority that the roads in Tamenglong district need immediate and serious attention.

On the basis of the inspection carried out by students' bodies under the aegis of ZSUM, the Lankhong to Bhalok road (33 kilometres long road) bifurcated from NH 53 is in a pathetic condition, a statement issued by the ZSUM state secretary, Chunthaigai and finance secretary, Thaingamlung Thaimei pointed out.

The statement charged that the road is one of the worse roads ever constructed by the PWD.

The road has neither been repaired nor maintained adding to the woes of the people depending on the road for communication.

The students' body further alleged that funds for reparation of the road are misappropriated.

ZSUM also pointed out that the incumbent EE, A Biramani is found absent from his office for fairly eight months (from November 2008 to June 2009).The statement charged that A Biramani, in collaboration with his subordinate,SO N Saratchandra, has converted the Tamenglong PWD office into two-man chamber.

It alleged that the entire administrations � from issuing contract work orders to issuing cheque�were run under their duress, without the knowledge of the other staffs.

The students' body urged the government to intervene in the matter and initiate inquiry to unearth the fraud committed by them while also demanding the immediate termination of such 'incompetent' and 'corrupted' officials.

The students' body also said that the EE is not solely responsible for the transfer of funds for Tamenglong district to Sadar Hills � as alleged by the students' body earlier � but stated that such financial problems occurred.

The students' body also learnt from the inspection that Ahaning Primary School is short of teacher.

The statement said there are four teachers at Singhra Junior High School against the needed 15 teachers.

The students' body also said the quality of work against the amount sanctioned for the construction of Dailong to Suanram road on IT Road is not matched.
