Imphal, September 18, 2009: Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has called 60-hour statewide general strike beginning from midnight of today till 6pm of September 21 to register protest against the indifferent attitude of the government to the demands of the Apunba Lup.

Announcing this in a joint statement, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has urged the all sections of the people to join in the agitations demanding the resignation of O Ibobi and punishment for the guilty police commandos involved in the Khwairamband incident.

Meanwhile, the JACs against the killing of Sanjit and Rabina have also extended support to the general strike called by the Apunba Lup.

The Apunba Lup release asserted that the statements of the PM, Home Minister and Governor on the people's demands are all against the sentiment of the people of the state.

It termed the alleged efforts of PM in trying to cast Assam and Manipur in bad light among the Indian states during the DGPs' meeting in New Delhi as unfortunate.

The Apunba Lup has also strongly condemned the police's action in threatening and torturing family members of the leaders of Apunba Lup, who were slapped NSA.

Denouncing the raiding of the AMUCO office on the pretext that the outlawed PLA members are having a meeting, the statement also urged the government to stop its strategy to cast social workers involved with AMUCO, COHOR, AMESCO, CLK, UPF, etc - nine leaders of which were detained � in bad light.

The statement also pledged to continue its stirs until the demands are fulfilled.

At the same time, addressing media persons today at Khurai Sajor Leikai, the JACs against the killing of Ch Sanjit and Th Rabina have pledged to support to the 60 hour general strike called by the Apunba Lup.

The joint meeting of the JACs held today, which was presided over by Th Anita and Mera, has adopted to support the agitations spearheaded by the Apunba Lup.

A joint meeting of the JACs against the killing of Th Rabina and Ch Sanjit has decided to intensify agitations until their demands are met.

The joint meeting also decided to reject the government's attempt to silence the agitation by promising ex-gratia and jobs to next of kin, to demand inquiry into the circumstances of the award of Gallantry Awards to Manipur policemen.

The JACs have also welcomed the agitations launched by various students' bodies while also urging the schools which have not joined the class boycott agitation to comply with the call.
