Contractors turned politicians get a tongue lashing from RB

Imphal, August 14 2010: Former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam has stated that it was not a good sign to elect individuals who view and treat politics as a business enterprise.

Speaking at a oneday political conference of Imphal Municipal Council Ward No 2 organised by the Thangmeiband Kendra Nationalist Youth Congress Committee at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai today, he said that politics should not become a haven for those with no ideology.

The Opposition leader said that it was a matter of grave concern when the people, bereft of the fundamental ideas of politics who see politics as business are elected to the State Assembly.

He called upon the gathering to look for competent youths from Thangmeiband AC who can serve the people instead of electing people who earned huge amounts of money using dubious means.

He reminded that youths have greater responsibility in ensuring a healthy society and a progressive State.

Stating that the Government suspended the IMC for misuse of fund, he observed that several vehicles and equipment have been handed over to the IMC to keep Imphal city clean.

There are many areas where MLAs of IMC area should supervise the works of the cooperation.

The incumbent MLA also distributed a leaflet listing the development programmes he initiated within Thangmeiband constituency since 2007.The list included 20 roads, nine drains, four ponds, seven crematoriums, three community halls and two library cum information centres.

It also informed about the benefits extended to different people through various schemes.
