EVEN AS Mrs AS Lungmilla, a victim of the recent clash with the security forces personnel at the Mapithel dam site lies in coma and is reportedly under life support system in a private hospital in Imphal, the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) while condemning the act of the security forces, has demanded an investigation into the incident.

Addressing a press conference at the MSCW office, Lamphelpat in Imphal West, Dr Ch Jamini, chairperson of the commission informed that a Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Mapithel Dam Affected Ching Tam Organisation, Mapithel Dam Affected Village Organisation, Mapithel Dam Downstream Affected Area Committee along with various student,s civil and human rights organisations had sent the commission a request petition against the police on Monday.
It was necessary that the commission takes up such matters when certain inhuman acts were targeted against the civilians, added the chairperson.
Dr.Jamini also informed that the commission has drawn up a recommendation which was to be sent to the state concern department.
Disclosing of the recommendation, the chairperson informed that the commission demands a proper investigation into the incident which reportedly left over 40 injured with one critical.
The commission while demanding an adequate compensation for the injures demanded that a proper training be given to the state security forces personnel especially in the 'humanitarian grounds' in order to maintain proper law and order in the state.
The commission also condemns the 'inhuman act' done by the security forces against the innocent civilians, added the chairperson.
Informing of the condition of Mrs.Lungmilla who was injured during the clash on November 3, the chairperson of the commission said that she was in a critical condition and still lying in coma.
Members of the commission also visited the injured that are still at the Shija hospital in Langol, Imphal West, informed Dr.Jamini.
It may be mentioned here that during the rally carried out by the affected people of the area against the construction of Mapithel Dam on November 3, a clash broke out between the rallyists and the security forces personnel which led to lathi charges, firing of tear gas and rubber bullets resorted by the latter.
In the incident over 40 were reportedly left wounded with one in a critical condition who is reportedly still in a coma at the Shija hospital hospital.
The act of the security forces personnel had received wide condemnation from all social, civil, students and human rights bodies.
