Safer Internet Day observed

To mark Safer Internet Day 2026, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) Manipur today organised a State-wide awareness campaign to promote cyber hygiene, raise awareness about key cyber threats, effective mitigation techniques and promote responsible use of internet and Al among the citizens.
Observed annually on the second Tuesday of February, this year's global theme, "Smart Tech, Safe Choices - Exploring the Safe and Responsible use of AI," focused on the rapidly evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence, said a press release.
The campaign featured awareness sessions at key locations across the State.
At Imphal, the campaign was organised in collaboration with leading institutes and universities.
Key venues included CC Higher Secondary School, Imphal; National Sports University, Khuman Lampak; Imphal College, Imphal; and the NIC Manipur State Centre at the New Civil Secretariat, Mantripukhri.
The campaign was also conducted across all districts of the State, including both hill and valley districts, in coordination with the respective District Administrations and concerned institutes and departments.
At the NIC Manipur State Centre, the programme was attended by the State Informatics Officer (SIO) Manipur, the Director of Treasury, Treasury Officers, and officials from the Finance Department.
Technical presentations on "Safer Internet Day" were delivered by resource persons of NIC Manipur.
The campaign also served as a National-level precursor event before the global AI Impact Summit 2026 being held from February 16-20 at New Delhi.
As part of the outreach, messages highlighting the importance of Safer Internet Day were also prominently displayed on the Electronic Display Board at Kangla.
In collaboration with National Informatics Centre (NIC), the District Administration of Imphal East organised a district level awareness programme bn Safer Internet Day at the auditorium of Lamlong Higher Secondary School today.
The event was aimed at educating students from Classes 7 to 10 on the importance of cyber hygiene and safe online behavior in the age of Artificial Intelligence.
The programme was graced by Dr N Johnson Meetei, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Imphal East, as the chief guest, said a press release.
A technical team from NIC Imphal East, led by Amujao Phurailatpam, District Informatics Officer (DIO), conducted an interactive session on i) identifying "Deepfakes" and AI-generated misinformation, ii) securing social media profiles and mobile devices, and iii) the legal implications of cybercrimes under the IT Act.
The Principal of Lamlong Higher Secondary School offered his thanks to the District Administration and NIC .
