Imphal, December 08 2010:
The Longmai Village Authority alleging that security personnel deployed for the protection of Gaikhangam and G Soihem Haomei beat and harassed people without any justification and demanded withdrawal of the security escorts from them.
They also threatened to call an indefinite blockade on NH-53 with effect from 6 pm of December 14 if the demand is not fulfilled.
The village authority made the demand in a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister O Ibobi late today alleging that Gaikhangam and Soihem used force to enter the venue of the congress meeting inspite of strong objections from the people.
The memorandum of the village authority alleged that the two leaders entered the area to inaugurate a Bazar Board office and community hall at Longmai (Noney) by deploying a large number of security personnel.
The security personnel beat and harassed the people without any justification.
Villagers had repeatedly requested Gaikhangam to hand over Lansingam Gangmei, former village authority chairman, who has misappropriated Rs 5,27,646 and 20 mandays, but instead of handing him over, innocent people are being beaten and harassed by security forces at the behest of Gaikhangam and G Soihem Haomei, the memorandum stated, giving reasons behind the boycott of the two leaders.
