YWHO speaks up for oppressed women

S.Premila, joint secretary Young Women Help Organization (YWHO) at a press conference in Imphal while extending support to Sobita who has been on fast since for the last 15 days demanding a solution for the present situation where crimes are committed against women in the State, urged the state government to take up various steps.
Sobita was arrested by police recently and sent to Central Jail here where she continued her fast from November 28 .
Among the various demands made by Sobita and YWHO include a home for the women victims like commercial sex workers, those who have been discriminated by their families and the society after losing their husbands, and for women being tortured by families and their husbands, strengthen women commission body with separate security, a fast track court only for, etc.
The Government should completely ban all the restaurants running in the State where sex continues to be freely practiced by youths.
Moral education should be introduced in the educational institutions curriculum in the State to make bright future of the youths, Premila stated.
YWHO will start a drive to shut down 'suspicious' restaurants in the State from December 13 onwards with the help from the public to save the virginity of girls of the State, she further said.
A sit-in-protest will be staged at YWHO office premises on December 8 at 10:30 am to show solidarity to Sobita who has been fasting for the cause of women who have been unfavorably treated by families and the society and to demand for open talks with the State Government on the various proposals of the organization, she added.
