AMADA receives praise for distributing newspapers

Imphal, January 04 2008: VOLUNTEERS OF All Manipur Anti Drugs Association (AMADA) today distributed newspapers to the public at various places of the state.

People have praised AMADA and expressed their gratitude to the volunteers of Association for their timely action.

Secretary, Drive Committee, AMADA HQ, K Meghachandra along with 10 other volunteers distributed different newspapers at RIMS hospital, Shija Hospitals, Imphal Hospital, Langgol View Charitable Clinic, RIMS Road, Lalambung, Sana Keithel, Uripok, Wahengbam Leikai, Sagolband Tera, Thangmeiband, Khurai, Lamlong, Kongpal, Konung Mamang, Nambol, Lilong and Samurou etc.

Meghachandra told media persons that AMADA took the onus of distributing the newspapers to the people as the distributors have stopped doing their duties due to their demand for more commission from the newspaper publishers.

People are not aware of any happenings in and outside the state as they can't get newspapers.

It has become easier for the gas agencies to sell their gas stocks in black market as people are not informed of the gas news.

Moreover, it has given a hindrance to AMADA in communicating with the people of the state in its drive against using of drugs and intoxicants in the society, Meghachandra said.

He also condemned the decision of the distributors who tried to prevent the volunteers of AMADA from distributing newspapers in front of the office of Poknapham around 4.30 am today.

He appealed to the distributors not to do such thing again in future.

He also said that the commission of one rupee they get for a copy of newspaper is reasonable.

He also appealed to them not to forfeit the right to information of the people.

He further appealed to the distributors and the publishers to bring an amicable solution over the matter and provide the public their daily newspapers.

If the situations persists, AMADA will be prepared to distribute the newspapers throughout the state.

He also thanked the people of the state for their kind cooperation and support in distributing newspapers.

Appreciating the act of AMADA, many people said that it was unfair for the distributors to stop distribution just for demanding more commission and stated that the commission o of one rupee per copy of newspaper was quite reasonable.
