Imphal, February 01 2010:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the killing of Ratanmala Devi on Monday demanded that the accused in the incident be "hanged till death".
The JAC mentioned this in its memorandum submitted to the chief minister, O.Ibobi.
Speaking to media persons, Hourungbam Rashi of Khurai, convenor of the JAC said that the chief minister had assured the JAC comprising seven members that necessary actions would be taken in connection with the murder of Ratanmala.
The convener while cautioning the government stated that if their demands are not translated into action by February 5, several forms of agitation would be taken up.
Meanwhile, the dead body of Ratanmala has been accepted Monday by the family members after conducting post mortem in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
The convenor of the JAC informed that as per custom of Manipuri, Dhanabir, the accused is the husband of the victim as he raped her and so the last rites as per the custom must be performed by the accused.
According to the neighbours of the culprit, he had committed several such crimes in the past and even did not spare his own wife.
He reportedly married his wife after she was being raped.
Terming the culprit as a virus in the society, the convenor of the JAC revealed that the woman was killed brutally and raped in a wild manner.
He added that such virus can be spread in the state so he should be eliminated from the society by hanging him till death.
It may be recalled that R.K Ratanmala of Khurai, Imphal East district was raped and murdered by her lover Dhanabir on January 30 at Langthabal in Imphal West.
The accused then surrendered himself to the police and confessed
the crime.
According to Dhanabir's statement to the police, she was being killed on the refusal to get back home and stated that she was affirmed to stay with him.
Dhanabir is already married man with three children.
