Imphal, December 28 2008: MLA BIJOY Koijam today observed the need for a democratic mass movement to bring an end to the atrocities meted out to the people of the state today while speaking at the convention on "Right to Life" held in connection with the concluding function of the 3-day long photo exhibition organized by Threatened Indigenous People's Society (TIPS) joining hand with the Meira Association, Bashikhong.

The MLA who attended the function as chief guest further said that the displayed photos in the exhibition indicated that the trend of violation of rights of the people in the state is increasing.

After seeing the photos, people need to think of a means not repeat such incidents in the future leaving the notion of avenge, he added.

The objective of the organizing the convention lie when the people take into account what the resource persons are telling.

An advice of a looter can also be taken into consideration if it is for the good, he said.

Bijoy also expressed his willingness to conduct such exhibitions in other parts of the state while observing that concentrating only in the Imphal area could not achieve the goal of the organizers.

Former Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Dr.S Dhanajoy, in his speech as guest of honour blamed the state government of not taking necessary action even though people cry for justice alleging that security are killing people in fake encounter in the present spate of killing.

In this situation, the main thing that people need to consider is the present political system in the state, he said reiterating that the prevailing conflict situation in the state could bring an end by politically.

MLAs should know this, he added.

While giving key note address of the function, TIPS general secretary, Tondon Moirang Asemcha said that in order to get "right to life" as people wanted to secure, TIPS has been organizing the photo exhibition to aware the people first.

"Right to life" is also included in the United Nations Universal Declaration on human rights.

During the convention, two resolutions, efforting for upliftment of right to life protect it and to stand against capital punishment by the people together were adopted.

TIPS President advocate Aslam Khan and president of Meira Association, advocate N Ojit joinly presided the concluding function.

In the convention held as part of the exhibition, advocate Angomcha talked on the "legal and constitutional validity of rights to life", head of English department, South East Manipur College, Komlathabi, N Amuba talked on the "human rights situation in Manipur" and former AMWJU president Bijoy Kanchingtabam on "role of media in conflict situation.

N Jatishwor and Bimol also talked on the occasion as special invitees.
