Imphal, June 29 2009: Irate residents of Lilong turned out local MLA, Md Helalludin by pelting stones and hitting with footwears alleging him one sided in easing the tension erupted out of dead of two persons injured in a quarrel escalated from the matter of stealing a battery on June 24 last.

In the security personnel efforts to control the crowd and protect the MLA, a 14 year old woman hurt.

She has been hospitalized at RIMS hospital, Imphal.

With regard to incident, locals said that in the early hour of June 24 last Md Khambi (25) son of late Yusub Ali of Lilong Tairenpokpi was beaten up badly by some persons led one Md Mujibur Rehman alias Mujib (30) son of Basir Rehman of Lilong Chaobok Khunou.

Khambi later succumbed to his injury at around 9 am of the same day at hospital.

Following the dead of Khambi around 30 residents of armed with deadly weapons like double barrel guns attacked at the house of Khambi by firing gun to the house which was retaliated from inside the house.

In the firing, Mujib who was hit by a bullet died.

Tension at the two localities running high after the incident and with a view to ease the prevailing tension, MLA Md Hellaluddin went to the locality today morning.

Despite the appraisal of the local people to attend a meeting held at Lilong Tairenpokpi to bring an amicable solution to ease the prevailing tension, the MLA arrived at the spot with delay from the scheduled time.

He turned up at the concluding part of the meeting, irate locals gathering at the meeting site who attacked the MLA alleged.

Reports said, when the MLA reached the locality, crowd converged towards him and started hitting him with footwears even though his personal security guards attempted to control the mob.

While security personnel are struggling the mob on one side some women from the other side rushed towards the MLA and hit him with sandals they wore.

The MLA was hit at least four to five times by the angry women before the security force prevented them.

Security personnel confronted with the outnumbered crowd to save the MLA from the scene with the vehicles they came with.

The MLA escaped with his vehicle after being beaten up by the irate mob.

As the MLA ran for safety along with his escort party, the mob continued to attack the VIP by pelting stones.

The gathering crowd also pelted stones at the security personnel who were assisted by a police team who rushed to the spot to control the mob.

In the security force retaliation with baton charges and with gun butts a young housewife was hurt .The woman who fainted after receiving heavy blow of the butt was immediately evacuated at a hospital nearby.

Mother of the deceased Khambi, Tombi Bibi told this reporter that her son had not stolen the battery of the canter which they alleged.

Mujibur and his party wrongly implicated the charge against him.

The battery was stolen by one Bolo son of brother of Mujibur and sold out to her son.

Her son had again sold out the battery to one Siraj.

On the other hand, the dead body of Khambi which has been lying unclaimed at RIMS morgue was taken by the family today for performing the last rites.
