Miscreants last night set on fire the office room of the Principal of LMS Law College and academic building of the college.
Reports said that two miscreants set ablaze the room of the Principal of the college at Khongnang Ani Karak last night at about 9.30 pm by dousing oil inside the room by breaking the window pane.
In the fire burnt incident, the AC-Cooler and Xerox machine have been burnt down.
However, with the efforts of the residents of the surrounding had saved the structure from total damage.
Police also rushed to the spot with the information passed by the chawkidar.
The fire burnt incident took place on the last date of nomination of papers for the candidatures for the elections to the student union of the college which a meeting of the election committee yesterday itself had resolved to suspend all proceeding.
The committee meeting convened by the principal had resolved to stop all the process for election with immediate effect, the report said adding that the scrutiny of the candidatures which was scheduled today was not performed following the resolution.
The election to the ADC was due to hold on April 30 .
Meanwhile, two candidates contesting for the post of president of the union, Puyamcha Yaitonsana and Laishram Malemnganba told reporters that the non-conduct of elections to the student union of the college has completed two years.
They strongly condemned the postponement of the election by the election committee without any reason.
If it be due to threats from outside, college authority if willing to, can be conduct with security protection.
They condemned the attitude of the principal of not taking up appropriate action to overcome disturbances coming on the way of holding the election of the student union.
On the other hand, the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) while claiming that the postponement of the election at Law College was related with the ban imposed by an underground organisation appealed the concern group to lift the ban.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference today its general secretary Md Allamgir expressed concerned over the non-holding of the election to the student union of the college for the last two years.
The hold up in the election has caused problems in the affairs of the college.
The only way to solve the problem is conducting the election, he said reiterating Union's appealed to the concern group.
