Imphal, February 18, 2010:
For the first time after the last Lok Sabha election, Outer Manipur MP, Thangso Baite visited Moreh today and met all community leaders and requested them for votes for Congress in the ensuing District Council Election.
MP Thangso Baite was accompanied by 41-Chandel A/C MLA, Thangkholun Haokip, ex-Ministers, Ngamthang Haokip and DK Korungthang on the visit to Moreh today.
A meeting of all the community leaders addressed by the MP, MLA and ex-Ministers was held at the conference hall of Trade Centre, Moreh.
The meeting discussed means and ways for the people of all communities settled at Moreh to live together in peace and communal harmony.
Speaking at the meeting, ex-Minister Ngamthang Haokip appealed to the community leaders to vote for Congress candidates in the ensuing District Council election like all the people of all communities of Moreh had given votes for MP Thangso Baite in the last Lok Sabha election.
He lamented that there are too many check posts on National Highway 39 between Moreh and Pallel, and expressed his desire for having the check posts set up at Moreh and Pallel only.
41-Chandel A/C MLA, Thangkholun Haokip stressed the need for peaceful co-existence with communal harmony at Moreh.
A blueprint is required to discuss the location of the present parking areas and other establishments, he said.
Ex-Minister, DK Korungthang expressed his wish for development of Moreh and appealed to all communities including Meira Paibees, student organisations, etc.
to vote for Congress.
He expressed his desire for setting up a committee to look into how the government funds are spent.
President of Meetei Council, Moreh (MCM), L Imobi said that Moreh, which is described as the Eastern Gateway of India, remains far incomparable to Tamu of Myanmar.
However, Moreh has more revenue in trade than Imphal.
This is evident from the fact that revenue of Rs 180 crore is taken away from the UBI branch of Moreh by helicopter every month.
More than 500 vehicles of different kinds are pressed into service at Moreh employing hundreds of people and enabling them to earn their livelihood.
Imobi said, like the Ima Keithel complex being constructed at Khwairamband bazar in Imphal, a three/four storeyed super market complex could be constructed at Moreh too.
Moreh is a town in which eleven communities are settling presently.
Like District Council election and town election were held during the time of former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing, the MCM president drew the attention of the Outer Manipur MP to holding District Council and Municipality election at Moreh.
Imobi further lamented that the UBI branch of Moreh does not give any kind of benefit to the people of Moreh.
It does not give any kind of loan to the people.
Therefore, other banks such as the SBI need to be opened at Moreh, he said.
MP Thangso Baite told the people of Moreh through the community leaders to choose either District Council election or Municipal Council election.
He said, since Congress is ruling at the Centre and in the State, it is necessary for the residents of Moreh to vote for Congress so that the town could be developed in many ways.
He has himself noticed how bad the condition of the Lokchao bridge is, and he would request the state Works Minister to have a new bridge constructed as soon as possible, the MP told the gathering.
Regarding the telephone problems pevailing in Moreh areas, the MP said, he would take it up with the General Manager of BSNL to alleviate the communication problem being faced by the people and business sector.
Representatives of MCM, Hill Tribal Council, Moreh, Tamil Sangam, Moreh, Manipuri Muslim Council, Moreh, KSO Moreh, Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Moreh, etc.
