Imphal, February 10 2026:
The Coordinating Body of Trade Unions of Manipur has appealed people of the State to join the Nationwide strike on February 12 against the "anti-worker, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate" policies of the Central Government.
Speaking at a press briefing today at Irawat Bhawan, BT Road, L Sotinkumar, general secretary, AITUC Manipur State Committee, said that the general strike is a show of resistance against the Modi Government's consolidation of 29 labour laws into four labour codes, repeal, renaming and replacement of MGNREGA, Indo-US trade deal, privatization of Public Sector Undertakings and policies of the Government which affect the welfare of farmers and labourers.
In Manipur, shops and establishments, women's marketplaces, transport workers, farmers, banks, BSNL, LIC, insurance companies, auto service workers, barbers etc will take part in the Nationwide general strike.
Vendors will not sell their wares/produce on February 12, but stage protests in the marketplaces.
Other workers will organise similar sit-in protests in different parts of the State, including at BT Road.
All Manipur Agriculture Workers Union, Manipur State Committee of All India Trade Union Congress; Coordinating Committee of Trade Unions, Manipur; AITUC Manipur State Committee; Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Manipur; Indian National Trade Union Congress, Manipur, TUCC, UTUC and SKM have endorsed the strike.
