JDDC signs MoU with govt, suspends stir

In what could be considered a milestone in bringing some relief to the untold miseries and hardships faced by the people of the state bearing the brunt of strikes and economic blockades along the National Highways in the state, an amicable solution was found in the talks between the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) and the state government today.
The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the demand for the upgradation of Jiribam of Jiribam Revenue Sub-Division into a full-fledge revenue district after the intervention of several CSOs of the state.
In the talk, JDDC was represented by its President Th Jini and Convenor Maipaksana while the state government was represented by Chief Minister O Ibobi, IFCD Minister N Biren, Revenue Minister Devendro, Chief Secretary DS Poonia and Secretary to Chief Minister Sumant Singh besides leaders of AMUCO, NIPCO, UPF, CLK, IPSA and HERICOUN.
The state government has agreed to the upgradation of Jiribam Revenue Sub-Division into a full-fledge revenue district at an early date after the submission of the report of Committee on Reorganization of Administrative and Police Boundaries.
The government also assured to open Science stream in the Aided Jiribam College from the next session and to put necessary infrastructure including human resources in time.
It also assured to create sufficient number of posts in other departments of the college to fulfill the norms of the UGC and Manipur University and issue necessary orders in the regard within the current month.
Further the government agreed to upgrade the government Borobekra High School into a Higher 'Secondary School.
It also agreed to upgrade the existing Borobekra Revenue circle into a Revenue Sub Division along with a Block Division including posting of an SDPO for which the necessary orders will be issued within the current month.
The government also assured to construct a library building with funding from Raja Ram Mohon Roy Libraru Foundation, Kolkata.
The government will also be transferring all the legally permissible powers of the Deputy Commissioner to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam in respect of Jiribam including funds of MGNREGS.
It also agreed to upgrade the existing Gularthol Police Outpost into a Police Station and transfer all the legally permissible powers of the Superintendent of Police to the Additional SP Jiribam in respect of Jiribam.
The government also agreed to open sub offices of the various Departments in Jiribam for better delivery of services to the people of Jiribam and withdraw the cases lodged against Kh Rajkumar who is on fast unto death demanding full-fledged district for Jiribam and to release as soon as he ends his fast.
On the other hand, the JDDC agreed to suspend the ongoing agitation against the government following the assurances given by the state government.
However, Convenor of JDDC, Maipaksana told reporters that JDDC will continue its agitation if the government failed to translate its assurances into action at the earliest possible time.
Meanwhile, Vice President of NIPCO, Elangbam Johnson told reporters that the various CSOs are intervening in the dialogue process of JDDC and state government as they did in the talk of SHDDC and government to give the long awaited relief to the people of the trouble torn state.
Likewise, they will also talk with leaders of UNC to come to a end their present economic blockade along the NHs in the state.
