Ranjit lays SWMP's foundation stone

Imphal, February 06 2009: State works Minister K Ranjit today assured that 50 percent of the job facilities at the Solid Waste Management Project (SWMP) at Lamdeng will be given to the locals, acknowledging the support extended by them in the land acquisition for the project in the area.

The minister was speaking at a function held in connection with the laying of foundation stone for the project.

He said that he felt satisfied with the sincere cooperation of the local people of Lamdeng area during the process of land acquisition.

He made a fervent appeal to the people to assume the project as a part of development of the area taken up by the government.

The project meant for conversion of solid waste from the Imphal municipality areas will not affect the environment of the area.

He also assured that utmost care will be taken up to check any health problem, if any, posed by the project, and make the people aware that the project is to treat the solid waste with chemicals and convert the solid waste into useful manures.

Works Minister Ranjit announced that development programme will be taken up in Lamdeng area.

The government is planning to construct an RCC bridge across the Luwangbi river so as to shorten the road distance for the convenience of the people.

He said, black-topping work of the 4-km stretch of the road running along both banks of the river will also be done at the earliest.

He further assured the people of the area that the project will be taken up with full quality control, and sought further cooperation of the people of the area for early completion of the construction works of the project.

Apart from Works Minister, K Ranjit, the foundation stone lying ceremony was also attended by the chairman of the Planning Development Authority (PDA) Kh Loken and chairperson of the IMC, M Ranisana as guest of honours and MLA W Brajabidhu as president of the function.

Giving his presidential address of the function, W Brajabidhu expressed believed that the government project will benefited the more than 10,000 heads of the Lamdeng area who extended support to the project by not giving any obstruction in the land acquisition.

He further expressed believed that authority will develop Lamdeng as a model village in the future and will not abandoned the project before completion.

IMC chairperson Ranisana said that the project will give great benefit to the people of the Imphal city as well as Lamdeng area.

PDA chairman Kh Loken said the project with an estimated cost of Rs 29.98 crore has been taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission (JnNURM) sponsored by the Union ministry of Urban Development and the ministry has sanctioned Rs 25.80 crores to the state authority for the project.

He also said that acquisition of 58.38 acres of land has been completed and compensation amount to the tune of Rs 1.23 crore have been given.

Mandatory environment clearance from the authorities also obtained, he added. The function was also attended by the officials of the MAHUD and works and PDA.
