A team of Imphal West district police narcotic cell seized 13,824 Spasmo Proxyvon capsules and 540 N10 (Nitrazepam 10 mg) tablets worth around Rs 50,000 at the local market rate from the possession of a man yesterday evening near the LMS Law College, Khongnang Ani Karak here.
The man arrested with the contraband items has been identified as Md Samir, son of late Sanayai of Sora Maning Leikai, while the seized items belonged to one Md Ibothem (31), son of Nizamuddin, police said today.
Police came to know of the owner of the contraband items during the interrogation to the arrested Samir but Ibothem escaped when the sleuth raided his house to arrest him, police added.
The contraband items were seized in an intensified drive against narcotic substances, said officer-in-charge of the Imphal west narcotic cell ahead of the Yaosang Festival, W Ibocha speaking to reporters here said.
The items were seized during a drive at Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak yesterday evening acting on specific information, the OC said adding that the seized items would be of worth around Rs 50,000 in local market.
Based on the input, a team of Imphal west narcotic cell led by himself in civil dress on close vigilant on the movement of suspicious persons conducted checking to Md Samir who step down from a tata truck with a carry bag.
When conducted checking at his bag, the SP capsules and N10 were found in seven packed.
The arrested person along with the seized.
items will be handed over to the Imphal police station, the OC added.
The Imphal west narcotic cell has started close vigilant on the intoxicant items considering the forthcoming Yaosang festival, he added.
