Imphal, April 18 2010: Two suspected members of a group who reportedly misbehaved with girls and women coming on pilgrimage at Thangjing hills in addition to acting rowdily with other people have been killed in a mob violence.

Four others including a father-son duo also sustained injuries.

The incident took place atop Thangjing hills near Old Gothol village in Churachandpur district, said a police source.

A group of 10 people wielding clubs and double-barrel shot-guns were frisking/checking mountaineers in the most offensive and derisive manner at a spot located about 3/4 Kms above the battalion headquarters of 16 Maratha Light Infantry located at Old Gothol village.

They also forced the mountaineers to put out bamboo torches in addition to robbing money and cell phones from some young boys.

These rowdy elements reportedly started harassing the pilgrims at about 9 pm yesterday, said reports reaching here.

Then they started using foul languages against women and even attempted to molest some of the girls.

Soon, the mountaineers heard that the gangsters had taken away 4/5 girls towards a shadowy area.

Unable to hold back any longer, the mountaineers mobilised together and went after the hooligans and attacked them, said sources.

While one youth was killed on the spot, another succumbed enroute to Moirang PHC.

Four others including a father-son duo were injured in the incident.

Of the two killed in the mob action, one has been identified as Jangminlun Chongloi (18) s/o Paoshat of Phaikot village under Saikul sub-division of Senapati district but staying at Jalengmuan village of Churachandpur district.

The other cannot be identified till the time of filing this report.

Both the corpses have been deposited at RIMS mortuary.

The injured have been identified as Lalcha Haokip (16) son of Zangam of Tuibong, Mamang Haokip (20) son of Jankhon of Lhangnom, Seimang Kipgen (52) of T Chawangphai and his son Haiminthang (18) .

Henglep police have started investigation into the incident after registering an FIR, said a police source.
