Youth leadership camp begins

Imphal, April 17 2013: A 3-day-long youth leadership training camp cum cultural programme being jointly organised by United Committee Manipur (UCM) and Khongnangpokpi Area Youth Development Organisation (KAYDO) has begun since yesterday at Khongnangpokpi village in Senapati district.

Joychandra Konthoujam, Secretary General of UCM' who attended the inaugural function of the camp as Chief Guest, said that despite holding the post of Chief Minister by Rishang Keishing for extended tenure there has been imbalance in the development between hill and plain areas and its people.

In order to take care of development works, MLAs are elected from each constituency but unfortunately, some of MLAs especially from hill areas are being elected by voters who have never met them in their area.

So, we should be cautious while sending representatives and we need to make it clear to our elected representatives what we want for the development of our respective constituency.

He pointed out that with an aim to bring about equal development; Directorate of Tribal & Hill Affairs and MOBC have been commissioned to look after the developmental needs of the tribal communities and other backward classes (MOBC) in the State.

In addition to this, under the provisions of Indian Constitution only the elected MLAs from hill areas are nominated to the office of Tribal & Hill Affairs Committee as member.

Considering all these efforts, there should not be a single room for uneven development and opportunity for all the communities inhabiting in both hill and plain areas.

But the problem of lack of basic amenities like drinking water, power supply, PDS rations, road communication, better education system and institutes are almost same in both the hills and the plain areas of state.

So, we need to make a louder voice so that it reached the ears of concerned authorities.

Joychandra also exhorted the participating youths to play a pivotal role in bringing social change as well as in preserving the culture.
