Imphal, September 07 2011: Giving credit to sportspersons for bringing fame and laurels in games and sports and to the art of living and its philosophy adopted by the forefathers of the Manipuris and expressing serious concern over the deteriorating lifestyles of the present generation, Retired Principal, Presidency College Motbung, Professor Ng Kangjia Mangang today called for a change in the lifestyle (Punsiron) of the present generation for a brighter future of the state.

He was speaking as a chief guest in the 4th Kanglei Ningol Numit organized by the Ningol Khongchat Lup at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul Imphal today.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Kangjia said that Meeteis in the past took more than three years to learn Yumballon with a daily class of three hours.

This class taught a couple what they should eat, do, speak and many other things before they have their child.

There are many lessons in the the art of living of the Meeteis which many can learn for a better and healthy lifestyle.

According to Meetei philosophy, a father is believed to carry the seed of a child in him for two months before he transfer it to the mother's womb.

During this period, a would-be-father used to drink liquid extract of Peruk, Tingthou and honey made out of Khoirel.

Peruk is a natural brain developing herb and Meeteis have been using it since time immemorial as a health booster.

Surprisingly, a group of scientist of England recognized the brain developing substance in Peruk only some years ago, he said.

When the mother conceived with her baby, she used to eat Peruk, sugarcane (Chungou), banana and honey as a compulsory supplementary food items.

Not only these, every Meeteis have a habit to eat Singju made out of 750 ingredients in a year's time and they also used to eat Singju made out of 150 ingredients on the day of Cheiraoba.

Moreover, Meeteis easily defended themselves from deadly diseases like cancer, asthma and diabetes by only eating Singju, Kangsoi, Champhut and hand husked rice and strengthening their immune system, he added.

Talking about the function observed by the Ningol Khongchat Lup, Professor Kangjia said that Meidingu Pamheiba killed one Irom Chaoba and made Chaoba's pregnant wife Thambal as his queen on Monday, the 10th day of Langbal in Maliya Kumsing 3119.Thambal saved her son Irom Moramba from the clutch of the king, saved many Puyas from burning and taught Meidingu Pamheiba a lesson in order to prevent any future burning of Puyas.

The language, scripts, religion and various religious activities which we are being able to witness and use today is the precious gift of Leimarel Thambal who dedicated her life for the cause of the Meeteis and its religion.

That is the reason why Ningol Khongchat Lup is observing the day on which Leimarel Thambal became the queen of Kangleipak as Kanglei Ningol Numit, he said.

Okram Ningol Heisnam Ongbi Sumati Leima was conferred the title of "Aphabi Mama" as part of the function.

Chongtham Ongbi Ibemhal presided over the function while Principal, College of Social Works Dr RK Romiobala attended as Guest of Honour.
