Imphal, Aug 01:
The Assure Decent Last Rites (ADLR) Scheme aims at providing decent last rites to all the veterans including the widows as a gratitude to the service rendered by each one of them while serving with Indian army.
The basic concept of the scheme is based on CDS (Canteen Stores Department), Canteen where a veteran is dependent.
An organisation is specifically being created from within own resources to monitor the welfare of each veteran attached to a particular Canteen and to ensure that a veteran gets a decent and an honourable funeral.
The database of all the veterans will be maintained including their residence and telephone numbers.
In the event of demise of a veteran, the ADLR field staff would play a pivotal role in co-ordinating all the arrangements of the last rites on behalf of the Army in consultation with the next of kins and as and when required will themselves take the responsibility of last rites.
They will also lay a wreath on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff to honour the departed veteran.
The scheme would go a long way to boost the morale of all the veterans and assure them that the Army is there to look after them till the ends and keeping up the age old tradition of 'brotherhood' and 'camaraderie', said a PIB Defence Wing statement.
