The 70th Youth Day of Kamsei Moullien village which will go on for four days, opened today at the village sports ground.
President of the Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) N Rajendro, who graced the function as Chief Guest declared open the celebration, unfurling the flag of the Kamsei Moullien Youth Club.
President Kamthang Haokip of Kuki Inpi, Ukhrul and Secretary Haotei Chouthang, secretary of Model English Higher Secondary, Saikhul attended as Guest of Honour and president respectively of the opening function which was followed by presentation of cultural items of the youths of the village.
Speaking on the occasion, N Rajendro assured that ICHAM will seek assistant from the state government to construct a community hall in the village before the next Christmas.
ICHAM has been trying to provide infrastructure in the villages in the interior areas of the state for the last two years since its existence.
The effort in this direction will continue, he added.
Talking on the activities of ICHAM, Rajendro went on to say that the main objective of the body is to highlight the grievances faced by the villagers of remote areas of the state through the media so as to reach the ear of those at the helm of affairs.
Government machineries do not reach the remote areas to access the problems faced by the villagers residing there.
So, ICHAM has decided to tour the length and breath of the state to point out the areas which government could not reach, he said.
Moving on, he reminded the gathering that leaving forsaking one's own culture and adopted a foreign culture is not a good sign and that one does not become developed by adopting a foreign culture.
The culture of working together for common cause witnessed in the hill villages is found in the valley.
Working together can bring about unity among the people, he observed.
Speaking as chief guest, Kamthang Hoakip, President of Kuki Inpi, Ukhrul lamented that the state government has been neglecting developmental and welfare works in the small
village of Kamsei.
The village is lagging behind others in all respects.
In his presidential speech, Haotei Chouthang encouraged the efforts of the youth of the village in organising the gathering, stating that it is a step in the right direction.
He also advised the youths to work hard; reminding that stage of youth is a very crucial one in the life of a man.
Youths should try their best to learn from the elders.
On the occasion, the chief guest also handed over 4 footballs, 4 volleyballs and two nets to the youth club on behalf of ICHAM.
