Imphal, October 26 2008: PRESIDENT OF Manipur People's Party (MPP), Dr L Chandramani has said that the party joined National Democratic Alliance (NDA) out of necessity to find a friend so that the state would get its rightful share from the Centre.

He was speaking at the 'One Day Political Conference for MPP Women Leaders' organised by Chanura Marup, MPP at the conference hall of the MPP office today.

Dr Chandramani said, the party needed to stop the ever decreasing population of the indigenous communities under the Congress rule or else there was a fear for the possibility of the indigenous communities becoming extinct.

So, in order to save the indigenous people from becoming extinct and also to get the people's right to live, the party joined the NDA, Dr Chandramani explained.

He further said that the time was over for a single political party to stand alone and come to power in India.

At this juncture, since the UPA government at the Centre has indulged in a lot of anti-people activities, the chances for the NDA to come to power were very high.

He expressed concern over the daily killings in Manipur.

"If the trend of killing around 1,000 youths every year goes on for another ten years, what would be the fate of Manipur?" The Congress government was not bothered why insurgency prevailed in Manipur, he said and added that the MPP did not want Manipur to become a state where the outsiders took over as the majority after all our youths had been systematically exterminated.

Senior leader and MLA O Joy said, power comes through the ballot.

The value of the voter is immeasurable.

The role of a voter is huge.

Electing a representative is also a difficult task.

Electing a person without integrity and vision would bring about only negative results.

The voters in America are very sensitive .

Since America is a super power, the people of that country know fully well that if they elect an eccentric person as the President, there are possibilities of the President doing unwanted things to other.

nations.

But in Manipur valley, the consciousness on voting is very low.

No one seems to take it seriously.

There are sentimental votes, floating votes, ideological votes etc.

This system destroys a society.

Therefore people must be the committed voters, O Joy said.

Former Union Minister Th Chaoba said that the women should take a significant role in bringing a non-Congress government in Manipur.

As there was no regional party in Tripura, the Triputis disappeared.

In Manipur also, if MPP was not there, the Manipuris too would have become extinct, he said.

Other party MLAs and leaders also spoke at the conference.
