Imphal, April 26: Acting on a public interest litigation (PIL), the Gauhati high Court, Imphal Bench has directed the State respondents to take necessary steps for providing city bus service to residents of Greater imphal area as expeditiously as possible.

justice D Biswas and Justice TNK Singh, in their Imphal bench sitting passed the order yesterday following the PIL filed by one Manichandra Meitram.

The petitioner prayed before the Court to direct the State respondents to make necessary bus service available to the commuters especially the student community to facilitate convenient travel to their respective educational institutions (colleges).

On January 18 this year the Court had instructed the Government advocate to take necessary instructions from the State authorities concerned pertaining to the latter's action initiated on the same matter.

During the proceedings yesterday, the Government advocate submitted before the Court that the State authorities have already taken measures to provide the city bus service.

having heard both parties, the division bench of the court disposed off the petition by issuing direction to the State respondents.
