Gaikhangam's escort vehicle hit three of family

Imphal, June 21 2009: A vehicle of the securiity escort of MPCC president Gaikhangam had hit a young couple and their eight month-old baby injuring all three of them at a place in Bishnupur district two weeks back.

The three injured victims have since been treated at RIMS Hospital, but none from the escorts' nor Gaikhangam's side has come and enquired about the condition of the injured till now.

Irked over the indifferent attitude of the party involved in the accident, leaders of Youth Employment Development Organisation (YEDO), Yairipok Khoirom Makha Leikai, Thoubal district asked, "What kind of leader is this?" .

President of YEDO, Th Mohendro told reporters today that the accident happened at about 2.05 pm of June 8 at Khwairakpam Awang in Bishnupur district.

The reigistration number of the Gypsy in which the personnel of the security escort of MLA Gaikhangam had come was MN-06 L-1801, and the registration number of the van in which the family of the injured came was MN-06 L-2763 .

The injured victims are Saikhom Mani (22) of Yairipok Khoirom Makha Leikai, his wife Poornima (20) and their just eight month-old daughter.

Mani sustained injuries in his left leg and head.

Poornima suffered multiple fractures in both her legs and their little daughter sustained injuries in her right leg.

Poornima's condition is very serious, the YEDO president said.

Mohendro said that it is very unfortunate that a public leader like Gaikhangam has not bothered to even make a courtesy enquiry of the condition of the injured victims.

He said, though an FIR has been registered with Bishnupur PS, the police have not taken any action.

Though they tried to meet Gaikhangam, they were not allowed to meet him.

Now doctors have suggested amputation of both legs of Poornima.

She says, instead of living a disabled life, she would rather die, Mohendro told reporters with sadness.

In another written appeal, Mani, husband of Poornima has expressed his fear that all his family will become disabled because of that accident.

He does not think it fair that a public leader like Gaikhangam has not shown the slightest sense of humanity by at least enquiring about their condition.

Since they may not be able to live normal life, Gaikhangam Shaheb should come and kill them all in the hospital beds, Mani stated.

YEDO president Mohendro earnestly appealed to MPCC president to visit the Ortho Female Ward in the RIMS Hospital and see the degree of seriousness in which Poornima is being treated.
