MSSA heeds CM's call, suspends cease work stir

Imphal, May 14 2010: Manipur Secretariat Services Association (MSSA) has called off its strike after a joint meeting with the Chief Minister today.

Announcing this in a statement, MSSA president Nepram Lenindra said that the joint meeting held in the office chamber of the Chief Minister and attended by representatives of MSSA and MSDA discussed the present situation in the State and decided to suspend the ceasework strike for some time.

Lenindra also appealed to all the employees of Secretariat to resume their normal duty with effect from tomorrow.

According to information received by the press, following the joint meeting, the dies non invoked against the striking employees have been cancelled and the general secretary of MSSA Purujit who is in judicial custody would be released tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a statement issued from the Chief Minister's Secretariat said after discussions held with the Chief Minister today, the MSSA has called off its strike and urged all the Secretariat employees to resume office with effect from tomorrow.

The statement signed by the Secretary to the Chief Minister, PK Singh, said that in response to the appeal made by the Chief Minister, most of the offices recorded partial attendance today.

The Chief Minister has expressed deep appreciation to the Secretariat employees for calling off their strike as well as to other Govt employees who attended office elsewhere in response to his appeal.

The Chief Minister has also once again appealed to all Government employees to keep the sensitive situation prevailing in the State in mind and report to their respective offices and not be misguided by JAC representatives, the statement said.

The statement further said that the attitude of some Government employees in placing their personal interest above the interest of the State has been viewed seriously by the Government.

Accordingly, a report has been sought from all the Administrative Secretaries and heads of Departments regarding names and designations of staff absent and those absent.

The Government will watch the position of attendance on May 15 and take appropriate action thereafter.

A meeting of the Committee of Officers was held at 5 pm today in which the first phase contractual engagement of 67 Assistants, 19 drivers and about 30 Grade-IV was approved for recommendation to the Cabinet, the statement conveyed, adding that the State Cabinet in its meeting likely to be held tomorrow will consider this proposal for immediate recruitment on contract basis and for positioning them in different offices.

The minimum requirement of contractual assistants, Grade-IV and drivers has been sought from all heads of Departments by May 15 and the contractual staff will be posted against the absenting staff, who will be placed under suspension and it would be followed by disciplinary proceedings, the statement added.
