Imphal, April 11:
A ginger harvest festival organised by the Koide Village Women Society was celebrated today at Zhophao valley ginger farm.
A press release issued by the organising committee informed that the harvest festival was graced by DC Senapati district Dr Prem Singh and CO of AR Maram post VS Malik as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
The festival was marked by harvesting of ginger followed by a get-together session during which folk songs, dances and indigenous music were presented.
Speaking at the function, Dr Prem announced an incentive of Rs 50,000 to the Koide Women Society in addition to a housing scheme.
VS Malik also assured of help to the women society, specially in terms of finding market for the ginger farmers.
Even as Koide villagers are able to produce 40,000 kgs of ginger in a year, lack of marketing facilities is still a cause of concern to the ginger farmers.
Yet, ginger farming is one the principal means of livelihood for Koide villagers.
