Out of the total seizure of 1728 arms since two decades, 104 have been disposed off in auction till date, informed chief minister O.Ibobi Singh on the first day of the seventh session of the ninth Manipur Legislative Assembly today.
It may be recalled that the seventh session of the Ninth Manipur Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine-die on January 14 and scheduled later to resume from March 8. The chief minister who also holds the home portfolio informed that all the cases concerning recovery and seizure of arms and ammunitions have been resolved and the disposing work of the arms and ammunitions are in progress under one Judge.
He also added that none of the seized arms and ammunitions is used by the government.
The chief minister was replying to the questions raised by Morung Makunga, a member of legislative assembly (MLA).
Meanwhile, the chief minister while disclosing in the house that the suspected culprits involved in the killing of a mother and daughter of Phayeng village, Imphal West district were identified.
He also stated that the process of enquiry is in progress.
A total of about 11 to 12 persons were involved in the killing, added the chief minister.
It may be recalled that On January 23, the mother-daughter duo of Phayeng village, Imphal West district was raped and killed and then abandoned in a paddy field after two unknown miscreants had abducted them.
The victims were identified as Chanbi Devi and Abemcha Devi.
Both the mother and daughter had reportedly gone missing since January 13 night.
Following the arrest of one N.Meghachandra, the prime accused in the incident identified as N.Sunil @ Pitru, cadre of proscribed People�s Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested, revealed O.Ibobi Singh in the house.
While revealing that Chanbi Devi (mother) was being threatened by N.Sunil in July last year, O.Ibobi Singh stated that the latter had demanded the former to produce his son, allegedly a PLA cadre who had absconded along with the party�s arms and ammunitions.
He also added that N.Sunil also told the mother that the consequences of her son�s wrongdoings would be borne by her.
While mentioning that such incidents are very rare not only in the state but also across the world, O.Ibobi Singh asserted that the government seriously views such incidents.
Meanwhile, opposition leader O .Joy expressed concern over the increasing crimes in the state.
