Imphal, December 01, 2009: Two persons filed nominations for candidature in the ensuring bye-election to the 14-Yaiskul Assembly Constituency today even as NCP today announced that the party will not field its candidate in the bye-election.

Meanwhile, a day after the Bharatya Janata Party (BJP) pronounced its decision of not fielding a candidate in the coming by-poll to Yaiskul AC, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have also announced not to field a candidate in the coming by-election.

The two persons who submitted nomination papers as independent candidates were Jaydev alias Gandhi, sitting councillor of the Imphal Municipal Council and Aribam Jagdish of Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai.

They submitted their nominations to the returning officer of the bye-election to Yaiskul at Porompat today.

Meanwhile, editor of "Toknga" daily, Soubam Rajen today announced that he will contest the bye-election as nominee of Janata Dal (Secular) after leaving his present occupation.

The announcement was made in the office of the Taknga today by the editor himself.

Earlier, a press conference called by president of the JD (S), W Kullabidu regarding the announcement of review in the party decision to field O Mahavir as party candidate in the ensuing bye-election and replaced by Rajen was cancelled following protest from the supporters of Mahavir.

While announcing his candidature in the election, Rajen also said he resigned from the post of editorship of the daily.

He also elaborately talked on the reasons behind he contest the election.

On the other hand, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today announced that the party will not field its candidate in the ensuing bye-election.

The party will also not extend support to the any candidate.

While announcing the decision of the party, party president Radhabinod Koijam however maintained that if people thing that Ibobi's government is no more people's government, they have to avoid casting vote in favour of Congress candidate.

Speaking at a press conference, Koijam said that Jaydev who filed nomination today as independent has approached the party to extend support to his candidature but an executive meeting of the party held yesterday has decided not to extend support to anyone or field candidate.

A day after the Bharatya Janata Party (BJP) pronounced its decision of not fielding a candidate in the coming by-poll to Yaiskul AC, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) has too announced not to field a candidate in the coming by-election.

"The MPP is not fielding a candidate in the coming by-poll to keep the anti-Congress voters intact," said MPP President Dr Nimaichand Luwang while briefing media persons after the meeting today.

A joint meeting of the MPP Advisory Committee, Legislature Party, and members of Yaiskul Kendra Committee of the MPP, after detailed discussion, decided not to field party candidate in the by-poll.

Dr Nimaichand Luwang said, the ensuing by-poll would be a litmus test for the Congress and Chief Minister O Ibobi.

It is not that there is suitable candidate among the MPP.

But the party has decided not to field a candidate in order to ensure the defeat of the Congress.

He observed that students are deprived of learning due to the agitation launched by the two JACs, Apunba Lup and the three students' bodies in connection with the July 23 incident at Khwairamband.

People of the state are very much aware that O Ibobi, his council of ministers and MLAs have pretended of not seeing the agitation around.

The people would pay back fittingly in the Yaiskul by-poll.

The MPP is closely observing the feelings of the people, he said.

Since the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is December 5, the party would announce its support after the candidates for the by-poll are clear.

Fielding question from reporters, the MPP President said, the CM was saying that right to education is more important than right to life due to his immaturity.

He added that right to life is most important.

Right to education comes after right to education.
