Imphal, February 01 2010:
State Chief Minister, O Ibobi today appealed to the representatives of the localities objecting the government move to take over land for expansion of Yurembam Power Sub-station, to sacrifice their land for the sake of the state in a meeting held at his official bungalow.
The Chief Minister convened the meeting with the residents of the Yurembam and its surrounding area this evening to bring about a resolution on the people's protest against the take over of land required for the expansion of the Yurembam Sub-station.
Mention may be made that the residents of Yurembam and its surrounding areas to be affected by the expansion of the power sub-station there have been strongly protesting against the move of the government.
Due to their strong resistant, land demarcation works are yet to be conducted by the state revenue department.
In the meeting, chief minister was assisted by state power minister, Phungjathang Tonsing, principal secretary (power), LP Golmei, DC Imphal west K Radhakumar, chief engineer (power) and Senior SP, L Kailun etc.
The chief minister stressed the need for expansion of the sub-station considering the government plan to upgrade the transmission line to 800 KV capacity so as to improve the power supply position of the state.
To upgrade the power sub-station, the authority needs to takeover 25 acres of land from the surrounding area of the sub-station, the chief minister appealed to the people of the affected area to sacrifice their land for the sake of the state.
He also assured of adequate compensation to for the land.
Local people did not given their consent immediately to the Chief Minister's appealed bur agreed to hold another round of meeting with the participation of the circle MLA, S Budhichandra, speaker of the state Assembly.
He is currently out of station at Shillong.
After the return of the Speaker tomorrow, the next round of meeting is likely to convened at the earliest.
