Aizawl, January 21 (NEPS):
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd CMD, V P Singh has promised chief minister Zoramthanga to introduce mobile phones in the state with effect from January 31 following a meeting at the New Delhi�s Mizoram House today, government official sources said here.
Capacity of each district headquarters, excluding the Aizawl district as per status of Mizoram Mobile Phone Services is 1000 connections while state capital will have 1300 connections.
Mobile phone services will be effective from January 31 in Aizawl, Kolasib and Mamit districts whereas it will be effective from February in the districts of Lunglei, Saiha and Serchhip.
In the case of Champhai district, which is located on the Indo-Myanmar border, special permission has to be obtained from the Government of India.
The CM is said to be pursuing this permission.
The number of mobile phone connections that has been given to the state, especially Aizawl city, is going to be far from adequate and a stampede for the connections is sure to ensue.
The minimun requirement for the city alone may surpass five figures.
Meanwhile, neighbouring Tripura will get only 6300 mobile phone connections, 2000 less than Mizoram.
Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland are getting more mobile connections.
Union Minister of State for communication and Information Technology Ashok Pradhan recently stated that BSNL would provide 95,350 mobile phone connections in the North East.
