Imphal, June 14:
The Class X Board Examination results which were declared after a long wait last Saturday evokes mixed reactions in Lamka.
That no candidates from the district could secure, a berth within the State's top-25 list shocked many people who believe that Churachandpur is becoming the bulwark of 'quality education' in the state.
Others find solace in the fact that the overall pass percentage in the district is a healthy 60 plus (around 900 candidates pass out of about 1500) against the state's figure of a measly 36%.As expected, private run schools lead and dominate the results.
Some of these private schools registered a 100% pass result.
At St Paul's Institute, New Lamka, 48 of its 76 odd candidates pass, in first division while the rest of the candidates1 were placed in the second division.
However, that kind of enviable record does come with a price.
These schools have dropped many of their own 'doubtful candidates' in the selection tests held in the school, forcing these dropped students to seek admit cards from some lowly Government schools or wait it out for a full year.
Sources said that many students who pass from Government schools were actually candidates picked from those dropped by private institutes, in an arrangement agreed on between the two schools with the connivance pf BSJEM officials.
In this year too, as many as nine Government schools registered nil results.
Informed sources also disclosed that the 'additional subjects' played a great role in increasing the number of first divisioners in the examination.
The excess marks obtained in these subjects (marks in excess of the 33 pass mark) is added to the total tally greatly increasing the aggregate score.
One reason why Ccpur candidates could hot attain top positions this year could well be that most candidates here opted for easy subjects like Home Science as additional subjects while many schools in the.
Valley introduced higher mathematics which is more scoring even as it is more difficult, they pointed out.
While many people had expressed annoyance at the undue delay in result declaration, there are also specific instances aplenty which could throw more doubts on the Board's credibility.
The strike resorted to by the invigilators demanding a raise in remuneration has already taken away some of the shine from the BSEM.
A random glance at the results as they came through the internet shows up some baffling results.
One candidate whose aggregate score is more than 450 got only two marks in Mathematics.
