Imphal, January 03:
Federation of Regional Integrated Indigenious Society has mooted re-introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system to stop the influx of outsiders in Manipur whose number has become one-third of the total population of Manipur.
Addressing mediapersons at the Keishampat Keisham Leikai of the Society office this afternoon, Society president Sapam-cha Jadumani said pressure would be exerted on the Government for taking up the matter during the forthcoming State Assembly session besides conducting wall poster campaigns and public dialogue to sensitise the people this issue.
He asserted that ILP system which was in force for many years had been lifted on November 18, 1950 by then Chief Commissioner Himat by issuing a simple notification.
Since then there has been uninterupted influx of many outsiders in Manipur.
The situation has come to such a pass that the number of outsiders has become one-third of the total population of the State even more than the number of the tribal people who have been living in Manipur since time immemorial.
Instead of remaining as non-Manipuris, these immigrants have even started contesting in the general election, he said, adding that the votes of the non-Manipuris have become a decisive factor in electing our own representatives in Assembly Constituencies like Jiri, Thangmeiband, Sugnu, Khundrakpam, Wangkhei, Moreh, Khundrakpam, Heingang, etc.
