Bharat Nirman Campaign begins in Chandel

Thoubal, October 29 2013: Bharat Nirman Campaign began today at Koshang memorial community hall, Khangshim Village in Chandel district with Outer Manipur Lok Sabha MP, Thangso Baite as the chief guest.

Addressing the inaugural session of the campaign organised by Press Information Bureau Imphal in collaboration with various other sister organisations MP Thangso Baite said UPA II Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of UPA has launched various programmes to give benefits to the common masses.

All these programmes are for giving benefits to the common people living across the country.

He however expressed reservation that these programmes will not be successful if there is no public participation.

Hence the importance of public information campaign which attempts to make common masses aware of the various programmes launched by the Government at the Centre.

He said food security Act and land acquisition Act are two ambitious Acts passed by the Indian Parliament.

These two Acts will be able to take care of the need of all the people of the country irrespective of caste and creed.

Th Chittaranjan Singh, IAS, DC Chandel, who was the guest of honour of the function said that too many public welfare programmes have been launched by the Government at the Centre with the attempt to improve economy and standard of life of the common masses.

All these programmes are target oriented.

In his presidential speech D Korungthang, MLA said that the time has come for all to understand whether the common people are getting the benefits of the programmes launched by the Government.

Total sanitation programme is launched but sanitary items are lying idle without distributing them to the beneficiaries.

The time has come to gauge the mood of the masses whether they are really happy with all these programmes launched by the Government or not.

Because feed is not coming from the common masses.

He appealed to all to work hard to get more benefits from the Government because the latter supports all those who work hard.

Premlata Loitam, MCO, PIB Imphal gave the welcome address at the inaugural function while George, in charge of DFP, Chandel proposed the vote of thanks.

The inaugural function was marked by the presentation of opening song and a drama by the artistes of Bashikhong Dramatic Association, Imphal.

Earlier, the chief guest opened exhibition stalls and a DAVP exhibition, which formed part of the Bharat Nirman Campaign.

NFSA: Taking part in the technical session of the Bharat Nirman campaign at Khangshim village today N Sanatomba Singh, editor of the Manipur Mail said Food security Act (FSA) is a dream project of the UPA II Government at the Centre.

But the act is at an infant stage.

When this Act is implemented at least 81 crore people of the country will get benefits.

The importance of the Act has been highlighted by the fact that it has shaped even the style of election speeches of the great leaders of the country let alone creating hope to the millions of the people of the country.

Now the leaders of the opposition parties have talked of giving benefits to the poor masses if they come to power.

The earlier election campaign style adopted by the leaders of the political parties was showering invectives to the leaders of the rival political parties that have been given bucket now.

This is a change brought by the Food Security Act.

Speaking at the occasion, A Nikunja Singh, EE, PHED, Chandel district reminded the large gathering that water is life, nothing can substitute water, and appealed to the people of Chandel district to save water.

He further said that though drinking water is a state subject, the Government of India has been making efforts to solve the magnitude of the problem through the centrally sponsored Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme since 1972-73 .

As availability of drinking water is a huge problem in Manipur, harvesting rain water is very important.

Water bodies in Manipur are prone to drying up.

When heaven gi ves us so much water in the form of rain, it would be unwise to waste the gift, Nikunja said.
