Imphal, September 28: An advocacy programme for church leaders organized by District AIDS Advocacy Committee (DAAC), Ukhrul under the sponsorship of Constella Future and ORCHID concluded with a positive note that church should take a leading role to address the issues of drugs and HI/AIDS, informed a DAAC release.

It resolved to recommend the following points to facilitate effective response of the church so that drugs and HIV/AIDS problems in the district is reduced at the earliest.

Points recommended are church should have a separate budget for drugs and HIV/AIDS.

Prayer group to address the problems of drugs and people living with HIV/AIDS, identifying counsellors, volunteers and evangelists to work for the issues, coordination with the existing GOs, NGOs/CBOs and to raise relief funds.

IEC materials will be developed relevant to the church congregations.

Organization of awareness camps at local levels, home visit etc, it added.
