DESAM fixes Teachers' Day

Imphal, August 28: The democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (Desam) has prohibited celebration of Teachers' Day by educational institutions of the State other than on September 5 as is celebrated throughout the country or on October 5 which is the International Teachers' Day.

Referring to instances of different educational institutes celebrating Teachers' Day on dates/day of their choice and convenience, DESAM noted that such trend had been eroding character of educational system of the state as students utilise these functions for merriment and indulge in leisure activities rather than observe the day in its true sense and spirit.

The student organisation also drew the attention of the school authorities to limit donation amount to Rs 5 only per student in connection with the celebration and prohibited collection of donation from the public on days other than those specified above.
