Cross border drug trafficking on the rise - 19 drug taffickers arrested in 77 days

Imphal, March 24 2009: At least 19 persons including three women allegedly involved in smuggling of drugs were able to arrest by the Myanmar authority from the Manipur section of the Indo-Myanmar border in a span of 77 days since December 11 indicating an increase in the cross border drug trafficking at the border.

In it pertinent to recalled that as per the report recently by the state prepared by the intelligence in connection with the agenda of the 16th Indo-Myanmar sectoral level meeting, 90 percent of the drugs are trafficked to India from Myanmar in four different routes.

These routes are Tamu (Myanmar)-Moreh-Imphal-Kohima-Dimapur, New Somtal(Manipur village at Indo-Myanmar border)-Sugnu-Churachandpur-Imphal-Kohima-Dimapur, Kheiman (Myanmar)-Behiyang-Churachandpur-Imphal-Kohima-Dimapur and Somrah (Myanmar)-Tuisang (Ukhrul district of Manipur)-Kharasom-Jessami (Nagaland)-Kohima-Dimapur.

Official source said that the arrest was made by the Myanmar police during the period from December 11, 2008 to February 25 with drugs, opium and contraband tablets and capsules.

A total of 16 cases were registered against them for necessary action at Tamu police station of Myanmar bordering with Manipur.

The arrested persons were U Mg San (42) S/o Mr Mga Tin of Kyun taw village, Phaungpyin Township; Myanmar; Buddhist; farmer, Aye Lwin@Myint Aye (40); Myanmar Buddhist of Outtaung village, Phaungpyin Township.

They were arrested wit 0.98 kg of Opium bought from an unknown chin old man a residence Moreh The individual were arrested near Kangyiwa bridge, Gate No (1) Namphalong on December 11 last year.

Kyway Wa (41) s/o Ba Tint of Nanthi village was arrested with 48.99g of Opium bought from an unknown chin lady of about (35) of Lian village, India.

The individual was stopped and searched white he was coming out of jungle route at Indo-Myanmar border behind Htinzin village on 12-12-08, and the drug was found inside his pocket.

An individual named Dan Kanyan (30) d/o PaoKhan Thang of Stimulant was caught with 830 tablets bought from an Indian citizen named Nyam Nyam of Moreh, India on December 19 last year .

The items were seized during search a bag hanging a post inside her house.

Tin Tun Aung (47) s/o Chit Tin, a farmer of Ywama village, Phaungpyin Townshipwas also caught with 0.572 kg of Opium on December 29.The individual was caught during a search at Gate No (1) and (2) while he was coming out of Moreh from porous fencing.

Paokhosai (54) s/o Haemyatngam, Chin national, farmer of Heaizam village, Seinpyar village tract, Tonzan Township also caught with Opium 16.338 g bought from an Indian citizen named Saiminghtan of Lian village, India.

Zarni (22) s/o Kyaw Than resident of Monywa with 101g of opium bought from an unknown woman chin national from Moreh, India.

The Individual was searched near Gate No (2) unofficially called Myinphu gate and the drugs were found concealed inside his shoes.

Under investigation, diazepam, 6800 tablets (5.44 kgs), man coming out of Moreh from near Hindu temple was asked to stop, and he ran into Moreh, dropping a big plastic bag containing the said tablets.

Win Naing (a) Khato (34) s/o Pauksa of Indainggyi village, Kalay with 16.33 g of opium bought from an unknown chin national of Moreh, India.

The items were seized during search on the metal road near Myinphu gate and the item was found inside his underwear on 25-1-09. Aung Kyaw Zan @ Shan Lay (26) s/o Lu Kyaway of Shan Mechaung village, Tamu caught with Opium 6.123g from metal road near Myinphu gate and the item was found taped inside his longi Peptica (diazepam), 7200 tablets (5.76 kgs) was seized from a man on December 27 coming out of Moreh from porous fencing.

He ran into Moreh dropping a big plastic bag containing the said tablets.

Nyi Nyi Win @ Pho Phyu (21) s/o Win Saung, a student from Yazagyo village, Kalay was also caught with Heroin, 0.3g bought from an unknown Indian lady hailing from Moreh, India.

The offender found possessing the item on search at Myinphu gate on 29-1-09 when he was coming out of Moreh and the drug was found concealed inside his shoes.

Hau Lun (45) s/o Mr.Mang Cin Htan arrested with 0.02 g of Heroin bought from an unknown meitei lady a residence of wooden gate, Gate No (2), Moreh, India on 31-1-09 and the drug was founded inside a cigarette box in his shirt.

Opium of 163.3g was seized on 7-2-09 from a suspect who was stopped on suspicion while he was coming out of Gate No.(3) at Chauknetgyi village.

He ran into Moreh, dropping a black polyethene bag containing the drug.

Aung Htwe (42) s/o Chit Thi from Khameit village of Tamu was caught with 23.472g of opium bought from an unknown chin lady of 40hailing from Moreh, India on 9-2-09.The said individual was caught when checked while he came out of Moreh from porous fencing near Hindu temple.

The item was found wrapped in his longi.

Khant Kyaw Thu s/o Than Myint, a driver from Tamu, Khaipi @ Kyaw Khaing s/o Vun Khan Khup, Tamu, (3) Chin Pu @ Sai Kho Lin (30) s/o Mr LetKhoSai, Tamu, Monpi s/o Tepao, Tamu, Tin Win (50) d/o Hla Kyaw, Tamu, Kyin Tin (51) d/o Hla Kyaw, Tamu, Kyaw Kyaw @ Naw taung (45) s/o Phawmyanthu, Tamu, Ketamine were caught with 1200 bottles of 2.4 litres Injection (IP) bought from an Indian citizen named Monna, a residence is located near wooden gate left side lane.

He runs a shop of confectionery and arrested on February 1, with the items were seized near Hindu temple from the auto-rickshaw from Tamu.

Actifed, 8,00.000 tablets (188) Kgs was also caught from a Chin national named Saanga.
