Poll-mode BJP head-starts, announces candidate for Tengnoupal A/C

Imphal, July 17 2011: "The Congress led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government in Manipur will be decisively routed out of power and BJP will determine government formation after the state general election due early next month," said BJP northeast incharge P Chandra Shekhar Rao while announcing that Janglet Haokip will be the party's candidate for Tengnoupal assembly constituency.

"BJP will be a deciding factor in government formation in Manipur after the general election of 2012," Rao proclaimed ahead of the forthcoming general election in a meeting today of village chiefs, social leaders, sympathizers and BJP leaders at H.Kotlenphai village community hall in Tengnoupal assembly constituency.

Taking a dig at the Congress party for its hands in corruption in recent times, he said that the people of the country are increasingly aware of the culture of corruption being encouraged by the Congress.

"Because of its legacy of corruption, the Congress party both at the centre and the state will be hamstrung from regaining its power," he said.

The visiting BJP leader also expressed strong reservation about the conduct of Ibobi Singh led SPF government in the state alleging it of discriminating between the hills and the valley of Manipur.

"As we journey from Imphal to Tengnoupal this morning, our team could observe development works such as market sheds, district hospital etc.

being undertaken at various places in Thoubal district.

But no such development works are shared for Tengnoupal assembly constituency.

This is discriminating the people of the constituency," he said.

Because the Congress party is mired in corruption scandal, political parties had stalled the functioning of Parliament recently.

The Congress was caught tight lipped and had no reasonable answer to defend itself, he added.

Shanti Kumar Sharma, BJP Manipur president, while speaking at the meet in Tengnoupal, said that the Congress led UPA coalition at the centre is increasingly bogged down by corruption scandal and the government will not be able to complete its full term.

"Nine-year SPF regime in Manipur has only drew resentment from the hill people of the state who have been discriminated on all development fronts," Sharma said, adding that "the people of the valley, where all the developments are supposed to have taken place, are far from happy too" .

Vice president of the state BJP Prof Tikendra tried to reverse the "communal" tag which has become associated with the party.

He said "the tag that BJP is a communal party with anti-Christian and anti-Muslim inclination is a propaganda generated by the Congress party and there is no truth in it.

The meeting also resolved, following unanimous support extended by all the village chiefs of the constituency, that Janglet Haokip will the party's representative for 42-Tengnoupal assembly constituency in the forthcoming state general election slated for early next year.

The announcement has also come as a forewarning to all potential ticket seekers to rest their case and work for the victory of Mr Haokip who has lost in the previous two assembly elections.

Besides leaders from different walks of life, BJP national leader Avinash Kohli also attended the leaders' meet today.
