AR 'Maitrigam' inaugurated

Imphal, Jun 17: Director General of AR Lt Gen Bhopinder Singh along with his wife Winnie Singh today inaugurated a project Maitrigam at North AOC that aims to provide basic amenities to AR veterans and civilians.

The Maitrigam has four components including a Drop-in-Centre, CSD (canteen), Aramghar (guest-house) and tactical HQ.

Mrs Winnie, president of AR wives' welfare association and founding chairperson of Maitri, as well as actively associated with HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention campaigns within the AR establishment, said the Maitrigram is meant for all.

The drop-in-centre will provide diagnostic and counseling facilities to AR's ex-servicemen and civilians who have had exposure to high-risk behaviors.

It will also provide information through education pertaining to safer behaviors and prevent further spread of HIV and AIDS amongst family members.

The centre will be manned by a project manager, a medical officer, a counselor, a peer educator and a caretaker.
