Imphal, October 12, 2009: Expressing resentment at the Government of Manipur for infringing upon the Constitutional rights of the tribal in the state of Manipur on various aspects, All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) appreciated the Tangkhul Katamnao Sak lorig (TKS) for staging pro test demonstration on Sunday at examination centers of Ukhrul district against lack of transparency and ambiguity in the order of the state government and sub sequent process for recruit merit of primary teachers under Autonomous District Council.

Romeo Bungdon asserted that it will extend all possible assistance to fight the tribal constitutional rights which is enshrined in favor of the North East tribal people.

It may be mentioned that TKS members had marched towards examination centers on Sunday holding effigies of chief minister, tribal development minister and CEO of Ukhrul ADC.

They were blocked by police and Manipur Rifles personnel near Ukhrul ADC office but were eventually driven back.

Speaking to media persons, TKS president Wungnaoshang A Shimray said that TKS has no objection to recruitment of primary teachers for ADCs, but the recruitment process of the government, the lack of transparency of relevant authority, the ambiguity in the government notification and the nullification of the term 'autonomy' were some of the things being objected to by TKS.

While stating that the recruitment of ADC primary teachers is the first event in the history of ADC local government, which ought to be disseminated and supported by all the tribes of Manipur, AMTU asserted that any infringement of the tribal Constitutional rights in Manipur shall be firmly dealt with through legal process, and democratic and constitutional ambits.

Alienation psyche will one day submerge the Manipur tribal people, unless the constitutional rights enshrined in favor of the North East tribal people are assured and implemented in letter and spirit, warned the press note of AMTU.
