71st Wildlife Week Celebration, 2025 concludes

SPI/TPL, Oct 8: After observing the 71 st Wildlife Week, 2025 from October 6 with a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and wildlife conservation, Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram in Senapati district, Manipur wrapped up the celebration today with a tree plantation drive.
The three-day programme was organized in collaboration with the Biosphere Club and NSS Unit, under the aegis of the Department of Zoology.
The observance commenced on October 6 with a wildlife awareness programme on reptile species at the college assembly hall.
The exhibition showcased preserved and live specimens of snakes and lizards, along with a rich collection of local insects, including butterflies and moths, to highlight the region's biodiversity.
On October 7, the outreach programme extended to Rangtaiba Memorial Institute, Maram Bazar.
Around 52 students from Classes VIII, IX, and X participated in interactive awareness sessions focused on the importance of wildlife protection and ecological balance.
The final day of the celebration was marked by a tree plantation drive at the college campus.
A total of 60 cherry and chestnut saplings were planted by 72 student volunteers from the Biosphere Club and NSS Unit.
The initiative was led by BSc Zoology students Rosa Ashuli Pao and Panii Khosiivei, along with NSS Programme Officer John Britto.
The Department of Zoology and the IQAC Cell of the college expressed their gratitude to K Chokhoni, Range Officer, Senapati Forest Division, for supplying the tree saplings and also to the Principal of the College, Dr Rev Fr Sebastian KO for granting permission to undertake these activities.
The three-day event was coordinated by Assistant Professors of the Department of Zoology, Dr Ht Decemson (Biosphere Club Animator), Dr Aribam Satishchandra Sharma (Co-Animator), Dr Sougrakpam Neli (Head of Department), and Jayenta Tongbram.
Separately, the week-long celebration of the 71st Wildlife Week 2025, organised by the Tengnoupal Forest Division under the theme "Human-Animal Coexistence" concluded with a grand prize distribution and valedictory programme held at HTC Hall, Moreh on October 8.The valedictory function was graced by Mahamuda Begum, Deputy Conscr.ator of Forest, Tengnoupal Forest Division as the chief guest and Shokolun Baite, ZEO, Tengnoupal district as the guest of honour.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing various schools across Tengnoupal district, along with representatives from civil society organisations (CSOs) based in Moreh.
As part of the week-long observance from October 2 to 8, a series of activities were conducted to promote awareness on wildlife conservation and the importance of coexistence with nature.
These included a foot rally at Tengnoupal District HQ town advocating for the protection of wildlife, painting and essay writing competitions for students, a guided bird watching nature trail, quiz competition, and villagelevel wildlife awareness programmes at Moreh and Tengnoupal Ranges under the division.
Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners of various competitions conducted during the week.
