The Kuki Students' Organisation, general headquarters in its emergency meeting held today ridiculed the State Government's move to hold panchayat/zilla parishad elections in scheduled areas of Sadar Hills District Council.
The KSO term this notification as a political gimmick of the Government for incursion into the tribal land in the hill areas, said a release further questioning how panchayat elections could be held in places where autonomous district council is in force.
Asking the Government to review and revoke the said move, the student body demanded that rather efforts should be made to conduct district council elections.
Meanwhile, Sadar Hills unit of the KSO has reiterated its stand against effecting transfer of teachers currently posted in Government schools of Sadar Hills before replacement teachers are deputed.
The KSO unit also noted that despite completion of recruitment process of graduate teachers Sadar Hills schools are still facing shortage of teachers.
