Imphal, November 06: The corpse of Akhup Kom (38) of Kangchup Kharam Thadoi found dead yesterday morning at Phayeng Uyok under Lamshang police station is still lying at RIMS morgue with family members and local Meira Paibis still refusing to take the body.

He was staying at Phayeng Yubung Khunou after marrying a woman of the village.

He left a son and two daughters.

The deceased left home on November 4 to harvest paddy.

At around 7 pm of the day, Akhup drank liquor with Ningthoujam Tomba (40) and Angom RK (39) of Phayeng Kharang Leikai at the home of Tomba.

Tomba and RK maintained that Akhup left for his home after the drinking session.

In connection with the incident, MLA N Biren of Phayeng A/C came to RIMS and talked with the people of Phayeng and Kharam.

The Meira Paibis have declared that the body would not be taken until and unless the culprits are booked under law.
