Imphal, January 03 2008: STATE CHIEF Minister Okram Ibobi today said that the government is determined on enforcing rule of law to tackle the law and order problem, and appealed to the people not to feel too bad when some unwanted things happen in doing so, as such things are bound to happen. The Chief Minister was speaking at the one-day City District Congress Workers' Conference held at the GM Hall here.

Speaking at the conference, O Ibobi stated that the government could not remain indifferent towards the public outcry that the law and order was in such a situation that it was as if there was no government.

Therefore, the government must push hard to maintain law and order.

In doing so, some unwanted incidents were bound to happen, he said.

Ibobi further said that he did not want any incident of blood-shed in the state, and he also knew that killings would not bring solution.

However, being unable to bear the public voice, the state government has been compelled to take measures to maintain law and order. In trying to maintain law and order, some deaths happen, the Chief Minister said and added, then next day, they claim that the deceased was innocent.

Even the MLAs come along with the JACs.

But when they are narrated the minute details, they say "oh", and went back, he said. Regarding the developmental works, Chief Minister Ibobi said, the SPF government will complete seven years on coming March 7, and it will show all the works it has done during the past seven years.

The government is trying to complete the sewerage project being taken up in Imphal city within February next, thus ending the inconveniences being caused to the public.

The government is also trying to provide clean drinking water and regular power supply.

The Chief Minister further said that the government is discussing with experts on having a proper drainage system in the city area with a view to preventing floods from occuring.

A decision will be taken in this regard in a week.

The drainage system will be developed in such a way that the drainage does not fall into the Naga nullah and Nambul river.

The river banks prone to breach during rainy season are being protected with retaining walls.

Rs 40 crore has already been spent on the first phase and the second phase will be starting soon, he said.

Appealing to the people of the city for cooperation the chief minister also held that a peaceful relation between the government and the public was a must for development of the state.

And with support of the public, the Congress committee can bring about the integrity of the state, added the chief minister. Rajya Sabha Member Rishang Keishing said that since anti-national elements put obstacles, the Congress party could not win more than five seats in the 20 seats of the hills.

If the election was held under proper security arrangements, the Congress would have won more seats from the hills.

MPCC president Gaikhangam said, "Let's try to strengthen Congress party.

There is no need to criticise others.

No one can practise politics without principles.

The success of the party in the ensuing general elections depends upon the efforts of the Congress workers.
