New Delhi, Aug 02: The Department of Tribal Development under the Government of Manipur has been providing CGI sheets to the needy tribal families for construction of their houses for the last many years.

However, the distribution of the housing materials was made at Imphal.

The beneficiaries collected the materials and sold it out there as they had inconvenience to transport it from Imphal to their home at interior hill areas.

Then, there was no construction of houses and they remained the same as they had before.

Now, the system of the distribution of CGI sheets has been changed.

It has been made available at their doorstep.

The Tribal Development Minister T.Phungzathang Tonsing said here that the State Department of Tribal Development has started distributing the CGI sheets to the Tribal beneficiaries through the respective Subdivisional Office concerned.

Under the Housing Scheme, 60 beneficiaries each from every tribal assembly constituencies were selected and six bundles of CGI sheets per beneficiaries were given to them by adopting the new system.

The Minister also stated that the State Government was constructing a Tribal Market at New Lambulane in Imphal.

The market would have a capacity of 500 vendors.
